Closing arguments were delivered on days 30–32, March 13–15, 2000. The defendants filed a written closing submission. Irving filed a separate “Political Self-Portrait,” which was introduced during closing.

The defendants’ written submission addresses the meaning of the words complained of and the legal test for justification. It then takes eighteen criticisms of Irving’s historical work in turn, followed by Auschwitz, right-wing extremism, the Goebbels microfiches, and the judgment sought.
